Gentle Professional Cleanings

Regular professional cleanings are essential to maintaining a healthy smile!  Even if you are avid about brushing and flossing, it is imperative that you have your teeth professionally cleaned on a regular basis.  This procedure in conjunction with a comprehensive oral evaluation can go a long way toward optimal dental health.  Our highly trained and specialized dental hygienists are the best in the field of dentistry.  Our hygienists will collaborate with Dr. Colvin to provide you a personalized oral health care plan to prevent oral disease and promote your overall health.  Each hygienist will carefully and gently remove any deposits or build-up on your teeth.  After completing these tasks, they will polish your teeth to remove any stains.  Finally they will floss your teeth.   These procedures will leave your mouth and teeth with that clean sparkly feeling that keeps you coming back.  The education and demonstration that you receive are individualized, depending on your specific needs.  Your professional cleaning is tailored precisely for your overall health.

IMPORTANT REASONS TO GET YOUR PROFESSIONAL CLEANINGS:

  • Early detection of possible health risks such as oral cancer & gum disease
  • Prevention of tooth loss
  • Maintain good physical health
  • Eliminate bad and offensive breath
  • To have and maintain a brighter and whiter SMILE

Comprehensive Oral Evaluations

Investing in your oral health is one of the most important decisions a patient or parent can make for themselves or their children.  We at Nu-Smile are committed to giving you top quality, state-of-the-art technology when diagnosing a patient’s dental condition.  We will proceed with a thorough examination and overall soft tissue assessment looking for any pathology that may be present that causes concern.  Dr. Colvin believes that the key to outstanding results is taking the time to carefully diagnose a patient’s problems, so that nothing is left to chance.  By following this ethic, we can manage small dental problems before they grow into larger, more complicated ones.  As with any well maintained machine, our bodies are no less.  Consistent maintenance is essential in trying to avoid problems prior to their occurring.

CALL US TODAY TO SCHEDULE YOUR EVALUATION.  WE PRIORITIZE PREVENTION ABOVE ALL ELSE!

Oral Cancer Screenings

***A two minute exam that could save your life***

Regular routine evaluations are extremely important in early detection of oral cancer.  Oral cancer is a life threatening condition; statistics have shown that it is the sixth deadliest cause in the world with roughly 30,000 new cases diagnosed each year.  As a result, oral cancer claims one life each hour here in the U.S., more than lives lost to skin or cervical cancer.  Studies have proven that when oral cancer is detected early and treated early,  it can be 90% curable.  Oral Cancer is a problem among people ages 40 and older.  Also people that use tobacco products and consume alcohol are more susceptible.  However, the ADA has suggested that 25% of those diagnosed with oral cancer have no lifestyle risk and do not fall into the age category.  Call us today for your oral cancer screening.  Prevention is the key to early detection.

Preventative Dental Sealants

Dental sealants is an option some patients and especially parents of children may consider to help prevent cavities.  Between brushing, all people’s teeth develop a sticky substance called plaque.  When the plaque comes in contact with food or sugar, the two combine an acid that begins to eat away at the teeth.  This acid causes cavities.  There is something you can do to decrease the likelihood of getting a cavity in your teeth.  This would be a dental sealant.  A sealant is a material that is placed over the tooth that helps to keep the particles of food from adhering to the teeth.  Sealants are a good source of protection and can generally last several years, with regular routine evaluations.  Sealants have been used by dentists for over 20 years with great success!  If you are interested in possibly never suffering from another cavity, you may want to consider dental sealants.  Another great aspect of dental sealants, most insurances pay these preventive services at 100%.  Call us today to see if you or your child may be a candidate for these wonderful preventives.

Periodontal Disease (Gum Disease)

Your gums are an important part of the foundation of your smile.  The same bacteria that wears away your enamel can create infections under your gums that, if left untreated, could cost you a healthy tooth.  Periodontal (gum) disease can eventually lead to more serious issues such as heart disease and stroke.  Periodontal disease is also one of the most common problems dentists most frequently treat.  Some of the risk factors that affect the health of your gums are tobacco use, stress, genetics, medications and poor nutrition.  These are just some of the contributing factors.  Gum disease is often silent, meaning symptoms may not appear until an advanced stage of the disease is present.  Millions of people do not ever realize they have this serious infection.  Call our office today for a complete oral evaluation.  Dr. Colvin will map out for you a customized plan to help you prevent this disease.

Mercury-Free Dentistry

Because Dr. Colvin is concerned about her patient’s overall health and well-being, she uses no material in her practice such as mercury or silver fillings also known as amalgam fillings.  Dr. Colvin recognizes the impact of these toxic materials and the affects that they can cause.  Mercury is the most toxic nonradioactive substance on earth.  Due to its poisonous nature, mercury can adversely affect the immune, urinary, cardiac, respiratory and digestive systems.  Laboratory tests have proven that mercury has produced brain cell deterioration identical to that seen in victims of Alzheimer’s disease.  With so many other choices readily available, Dr. Colvin chooses not to use this material in her practice for her patients.
